n     Provide installation, maintenance and support of small office/home office and residential networks and workstations – wired and wireless.

n     Provided entire network configuration of Rockbridge Area Community Services (RACS) wired and wireless local area network as well as wide area network.  Included installation and configuration of half-dozen switches, multiple wireless access points and Cisco PIX firewall for the main office.  Also included secure connection of remote offices via Cisco PIX firewalls and VPN technology with DSL and Satellite Internet service.

n     Provided complete design of Windows Active Directory domain for RACS that allows all offices access to email, Intranet, Internet and other applications.  Provided implementation of MS Exchange and Symantec Mail Security for nearly spam-free enterprise email.  Provided implementation of MS Windows 2003 Terminal Server for remote operation of various applications.

n     Provided consultation and oversight of EHR software selection for RACS as well as associated database software and server/storage area network hardware selection and implementation.

n     Provided consultation and implementation of data backup and disaster recovery strategy for RACS.

 

Orthopaedic Center of Central Virginia                                     Lynchburg, VA

      Information Technology Administrator                             2005-Present

n     Managed process of connecting the practice to the Centra Health Metro LAN.

n     Directed the integration of technology of 3 medical practices into 1 after the organizational merge that formed the Orthopaedic Center of Central Virginia.

n     Provided supervision in the deployment of the new organization’s website.

n     Provided oversight for implementation of EMC Storage Area Network.

n     Manage maintenance and support of Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Active Directory domain, Microsoft Exchange 2003 and Microsoft Windows 2003 Terminal Server.

n     Manage all facets of desktop support for over 125 workstations; supervise other support personnel.

n     Directly support current Dell and Cisco wired and wireless infrastructure.

n     Manage maintenance, support and development of NextGen Electronic Medical Records, Electronic Practice Management and Image Control Solution.  Used SQL to retrieve ad hoc information and reports to provide value to data being captured with these applications.

n     Responsible for design and implementation of Foundry Networks switched and wireless data infrastructure for new facility.

n     Responsible for selection process and supervision of telephone system and cable infrastructure installation for new facility.

n     Responsible for assisting architects and contractors with appropriate design of main and auxiliary telecommunications closets for new building, including electrical, fire suppression, HVAC and physical security requirements.

n     Managing maintenance and support of practice PACS application as well as beta testing of new PACS software and migration to new PACS system.

n     Managed aspects of instructional and administrative technology, including voice, video and data networks, associated inventory valued in excess of $500,000, budgets in excess of $300,000 and four full-time and three part-time support personnel.

n     Acted as college-level deployment chair for Virginia Community College System implementation of PeopleSoft Student Information System.  Guided a deployment team of approximately 15 personnel to be the third of twenty-three colleges to implement the SIS to production.

n     Managed all hardware, software and associated network devices including 6 servers, 500+ desktops/laptops, all associated software, and associated routers, switches, firewalls, and cable plants.

n     Completely redesigned Information Systems Technology AAS Degree program and supervised successful implementation of the program as Program Head.

n     Responsible for successful migration of Netware 4.1 campus servers to Windows 2000 Advanced Server.  Successful migration of all campus desktop PCs from Windows 95 and 98 to Windows 2000/XP Professional.

n     Successfully implemented three video-over-IP videoconferencing classrooms used to send and receive live instruction to and from multiple remote end systems over data networks.

n     Acted as college-level system administrator for Virginia Community College System enterprise version of Blackboard course management system.

 

Public Schools of the Alleghany Highlands                              Covington, VA

n     Performed responsibilities of primary administrator of eleven Ethernet networks for the Alleghany County Schools.

n     Performed responsibilities of secondary administrator of four Token Ring networks for the Covington City Schools.

n     Designed, implemented and administered 100-node network for Jackson River Technical Center.

n     Designed and oversaw network infrastructure upgrades at Alleghany High School that included the replacement of all hubs with manageable switches, new Cisco router for T-1 access, new servers running Windows 2000 advanced server, all connected with fiber optic backbone.

n     Was responsible for administering network operating systems including: Netware 4.11 and 5.0 and Windows NT 4.0 and 2000.

n     Supervised 2 full-time and 10 part-time technical support personnel in addressing over 700 requests for technical support in 1 year.

n     Managed all aspects of hardware and software inventories including procurement, planning, installation and maintenance for new equipment and upgrades.

n    Taught some introductory courses in the subject area of networking and the World Wide Web.
